Violin and Timpani

“There is to my knowledge no other repertoire for this unique duo.

It was an interesting challege (at age 22) balancing the brilliance and virtuosity of the violin with the booming resonance and sluggish tread of the timpani, and giving the drums at least a semblance of melodic equality. Apparently I succeeded, as it is one of my most performed works.” — DA

Order This» Dancy etude in repeating polymeters that unfolds from a bouncing, rhythmic motif. Simple, tonal, and popular. ABA form; lyrical middle with drums on the melody; brash ending. Written for my Harvard senior recital. See on YouTube Notes»
