David Avshalomov may be booked for a variety of engagements.
COMMISSIONS – Creating original compositions for a wide range of ensembles and instruments. He enjoys composition projects where he gets to collaborate with conductors and performers, including tenures as Resident Composer with ensembles.
GUEST CONDUCTING – As a conductor he is at home with orchestras, opera, choruses, and bands, as well as specialized ensembles. For orchestral appearances he offers several program themes:
- Chestnuts (well-loved standard symphonic works)
- Avshalomov Dynasty (with works by two or three generations of Avshalomovs: himself, his father Jacob, and his grandfather, Aaron Avshalomoff)
- Moderns (selected accessible 20th century masterworks)
- Baroque (coaching period orchestral style with non-specialist ensembles)

SINGING – David enjoys guest appearances singing his own song cycles (with orchestra or piano) and he presents recitals of songs in a variety of genres. He also performs as a choral section leader and as bass soloist in major choral works. See the Singer page.
SPEAKING – Meet the artist appearances including preconcert talks about performances of his works, concert narration, and participation in symposia on a variety of topics in music/arts/social justice/wilderness.
TEACHING – Conducting, composition, orchestration, Baroque orchestral style. As part of a composer/conductor residency he likes to give workshops, clinics, and master classes. And he has designed “You Can Sing”, a no-mike large-group class for the song-shy.
